Parish Pastoral Council

The work of the Parish Pastoral Council is to examine and consider all that relates to pastoral work and to offer practical conclusions on these matters, so that the life and activity of the People of God may be brought into greater conformity with the Gospel (Vatican II).

In practical terms the Parish Pastoral Council identifies a vision for the parish and develops a pastoral plan which helps the parish realise this vision. It is concerned with “big” issues. The implementation is carried out by the parish teams and parish committees.

The role of the Council, then, is to

  • listen to the concerns and needs of the parishioners
  • plan responses to identified needs calling on all parishioners to contribute
  • regularly review the work undertaken

The Pastor and council members together discern the direction of the parish and what God is calling it to be.

The Pastor presides over the Council which has a consultative vote (Code of Canon Law 536).
