Holy Spirit Parish Youth Commission
The Strategic Pastoral Plan of the parish calls for the establishment of a Parish Youth Commission. The Commission is responsible to the Pastoral Council to whom it would make its recommendations. The role of this Commission is to:
- Be a research and information gathering group regarding church and community resources and facilities available to youth and those working in youth ministry.
- As needed and appropriate, inform the parish community or relevant people of the results of their research.
- Promote the use of established youth facilities and programs as appropriate
- Develop an understanding of and statement about the nature of youth ministry
- Determine the need for youth ministry in the parish
- Respond to the need for parish education regarding youth ministry
- Devise a plan of strategies (including programs) as the parish response to and collaboration with young people in the parish community thus, planning for a youth ministry in the parish
- Become familiar with and advertise opportunities for training for leadership in youth ministry
- Investigate the use of youth workers in youth ministry in other places. Evaluate the need for or suitability of youth workers for this parish
- Make other recommendations for youth ministry to the Pastoral Council
- Evaluate youth ministry in the parish as appropriate.
- Monitor the need of the parish to comply with the requirements of the following Child Protection Legislation:
- Commission for Children and Young People Act 1998;
- Child Protection (Prohibited Employment) Act 1998;
- Ombudsman Amendment (Child Protection and Community Services) Act 1998.
The Commission will normally have among its membership:
- A parent
- An adult active in leadership in parish youth ministry
- A young adult from the parish community
- A person from outside the parish familiar with youth ministry
